Hello, and Welcome.  This is a Beginner's Tutorial for Daz Studio.

Daz Studio is a a Free Program offered by DAZ Productions that allows you to work with 3 dimensional figures, objects, and backgrounds, to set them up in whatever way best expresses your creative energy, and finally, to render these into high quality images used for both personal pleasure or professional service.

Pictures created using either Poser or Daz Studio are composed of many 3 dimensional figures and objects, manipulated and posed to create original compositions. In some cases, through manipulation of the 3-d meshes, one can "morph" or reshape face and/or body to create new characters. Textures can be changed on clothes, and new designs created. Many artists contribute to the creation of these objects and textures, and these should be given credit where it is due, but the ultimate composer of the art is you.

Daz Studio comes with an assortment of free figures and materials - enough to get you started in this wonderful world of 3-d Posing Art. It is also completely compatible with Poser figures and elements. And it's Free!

Are you new to Daz Studio? Are you new to 3-d Posing Art in general? Then this Tutorial is for you. There is a link to Daz Studio in the upper left corner of this page. If you haven't yet downloaded it, that is your first step!

What this tutorial is: A beginner's Guide that will take you step by step into the workings of Daz Studio, from Set-up to Rendering. When you finish reading this, and practicing the exercises, you will be able to work with Posing and Daz Studio on your own. That is the one intention of this tutorial.

What this tutorial is NOT: It is not a complicated technical guide that will teach you everything you need to know to create magnificent and complex scenes and poses. It is not a guide to  Camera tricks, Surface Settings, and any number of other lessons of fine tuning. You can find those elsewhere.  For now. ;)
If 3-d posing art is a new concept for you, this tutorial will take you through the basic elements, and give you a clear, illustrated, step by step guide to setting up Daz Studio and using the materials that come with the free package.

I hope this will be helpful to you. Because I guarantee, it will open up a whole new world of artistic expression!

Above all, Enjoy!    -judee
IMPORTANT NOTE ON RECENT CHANGES:

This tutorial is based on Daz Studio 1.5.1.  Daz Studio is constantly improving and adding new features which can change configuration of menu items, etc.

Most recently, Daz Studio has had several major update tand is now at version 2.1, There have been added some important new features that are not covered in this tutorial.

I am unable at this time to revise and keep up with all of the new features. Some of the changes to the interface are major, but if you download 2.1 and wish to follow this tutorial, set the interface to "Classic". That will make it easier to follow as it will give you the same view as in this tutorial.

I do plan to do a full re-write eventually (and once I learn the new features!!) but until then, please be patient and use the Classic interface. The basic workings of Daz Studio have not changed. What is in this tutorial will still teach you the essentials of Daz Studio.

Enjoy!
